What we are doing
Mental health problems are still a sensitive issue and from a social point of view still something that people try to hide. For this reason, VET institutions are generally not prepared for it. It is necessary to develop innovative ways to fill the gap of lacking competences and to raise the issue to the organisational level. VET institutions therefore need to integrate mental health as a relevant issue at structural, process and pedagogical levels to address the challenge of mental health. Many trainers and teachers are not trained or qualified to deal with participants' mental health problems. Especially if they lack basic competences on how to deal with difficult situations in their teaching.
Our central concern is to equip trainers and teachers with sufficient skills and competences so that they feel well equipped to deal with the mental health problems of their learners and that they are resilient enough to limit personal distress and ultimately maintain work motivation.
